Aims and Objectives:
Candidates will be able to perform a systematic approach to the assessment of a seriously ill or injured child, recognize and manage a child in respiratory distress and failure, compensated and hypotensive shock. Participants will be able to recognize and manage a child with a life-threatening bradyarrhythmia, tachyarrhythmia or arrest rhythm, and prevent further deterioration during stabilization and transfer. Candidates will be able to perform effective respiratory management skills, including the use of oxygen delivery devices, ventilation and intubation, as well as the appropriate use of electrical therapy, including defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion, and IV access techniques including intra-osseous and fluid bolus administration.
Target Audience:
The Course is available to any healthcare professional who is registered as a Medical or Dental Practitioner, Intern, Junior Intern, Professional Nurse or Advanced Life Support Paramedic Although not mandatory, prior participation on an ACLS Course is recommended.
Course Structure:
PALS is a practical, case-based Course that will enhance one’s skills in the evaluation and management of an infant or child with respiratory compromise, circulatory compromise or cardiac arrest. Ideal performance is initially demonstrated via video and Instructor. Learning is facilitated by extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios, guided by positive and constructive feedback.
Assessment and Preparation:
The American Heart Association PALS Providers Manual will be supplied prior to Course participation. Each candidate will receive an American Heart Association PALS Providers Certificate upon successful completion of the Course.

The BLS Provider Course is a compulsory entry requirement for international advanced life support courses such as ACLS, PALS, ANLS, AMLS, as well as certain national post-graduate qualifications such as the Diploma in Primary Emergency Care (DipPEC) of the College of Emergency Medicine of South Africa.A comprehensive study package comprising a 274-page American Heart Association PALS Provider Manual and accompanying CD and Algorithm Memory Card, and a 94-page Course Guide is supplied prior to PALS Course participation. The accompanying online preparation section includes, practice cases and a pre-course self-assessment test. Participants must be in possession of an American Heart Association BLS Provider Certificate. Candidates will receive an American Heart Association Paediatric Advanced Life Support Card and Certificate upon successful completion of the Course.

ACLS and PALS Update course

The ALS update courses are available to persons with a current ACLS or PALS certificate that is about to expire; and who have the most current edition of the manual.

Paediatric Advanced Life Support Provider

The Course is available to any healthcare professional who is registered as a Medical or Dental Practitioner, Intern, Junior Intern, Professional Nurse or Advanced Life Support Paramedic. Participants must be in possession of a valid AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider Certificate.

Advanced Neonatal Life Support Course

The Course is the evidence-based Neonatal Resuscitation Program designed by the American Academy of Pediatrics in association with the American Heart Association for healthcare professionals whose responsibilities may require them to manage or participate in the resuscitation of a newborn.

Emergency ECG and Pharmacology Course

The Course is designed for all healthcare professionals whose responsibilities require them to recognize and interpret life-threatening arrhythmias and ECG rhythms, and to provide initial emergency care and appropriate pharmacological interventions.

Advanced Medical Life Support for Doctors

The Advanced Medical Life Support Course is particularly designed for medical practitioners who might be called upon to recognize and manage a patient with an acute or life-threatening medical emergency.

Peadiatric ALS for Experienced Providers

The Course is available to any healthcare professional who is registered as a Medical or Dental Practitioner, Intern, Junior Intern, Professional Nurse or Advanced Life Support Paramedic. Participants must be in possession of a valid AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider Certificate.

ACLS for Experienced Providers

The Course is designed for any healthcare professional who is in possession of a current American Heart Association ACLS Provider Certificate. It is ideal for EMS, Emergency Department and ICU staff, and particularly medical practitioners who regularly participate in resuscitation attempts.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider

The Course is available to any healthcare professional who is registered as a Medical or Dental Practitioner, Intern, Junior Intern, Professional Nurse or Advanced Life Support Paramedic. Participants must be in possession of a valid AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider Certificate.
